Characterizing Intercity Mobility Patterns for the Greater Bay Area in China

Understanding intercity mobility patterns is important for future urban planning, in which the intensity of indicates degree integration development. This study investigates Greater Bay Area (GBA) China. The proposed workflow starts by analyzing characteristics, proceeds to model spatial-temporal heterogeneity structures, and then identifies patterns. We first conduct a complex network analysis, based on weighted degrees PageRank algorithm, measure characteristics. Next, we calculate Normalized Levenshtein Distance Population Mobility Structure (NLPMS) quantify differences use Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) identify Our results showed an evident ‘Core-Periphery’ differentiation characterized mobility, with Guangzhou Shenzhen as two core cities. An obvious daily commuting pattern was found between Foshan, Dongguan cities at working time. pattern, however, changes during holidays. because people move from peripheral beginning holidays return end concludes that Foshan have formed relatively stable Shenzhen–Dongguan–Huizhou metropolitan area has been gradually formed.
